The Love Project
La MaMa E.T.C.
January 29-February 8, 2009

Funny, warm, thoughtful and thought provoking are just some of the words that describe 'The Love Project' - not so much a piece of theatre but a slice of thought and life courtesy two activist performers who bring the wisdom of elders mixed with the dynamism and vibrancy of folks in their twenties to this engaging piece of work. Part talk show, part house party, part cabaret - where they even serve food to audience members, Idris Ackamoor and Rhodessa Jones offer a personal political history of this country through the romantic, professional, political and sexual relationships that have guided them through decades of conflict and struggle. Rhodessa's humor is infectious, Idris plays the sax as though his soul just opened up to God and let you have a glimpse inside - this mix of food, pain, warmth, song, dance and love- all played out on the stage of La MaMa Theatre on East 4th Street in Manhattan. The personal and political are spiritually intertwined as they reveal the varying truths of their personal relationship, who they are on stage, their reflections on a global black community- this call to love is heard via their personal narratives. It's a collaboiration written by Pearl Cleage & Zaron Burnett.
